Job Summary

The Credit Underwriting Assistant supports the Credit team in evaluating, monitoring, and mitigating risks associated with financing facilities. The role involves independent analysis of credit applications, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s credit policy, Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) regulations, and Sharia principles. The Assistant prepares portfolio reports, provides risk feedback to business units, maintains data quality, and conducts on-site verification visits as required to support sound credit decision-making and effective risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent and detailed analysis of data and information provided by business segments on credit/financing applications; assess creditworthiness of counterparties, identify key risks, and recommend appropriate risk mitigations, conditions, and covenants. 
  • Evaluate all associated risks (business, financial, management, structural, security/collateral, reputational, and Sharia compliance risks) to ensure that facilities are structured within the Bank’s risk policy framework, CBoS guidelines, and applicable Sharia principles. 
  • Provide timely, clear, and constructive risk feedback to direct supervisors and other business units on issues identified during the assessment process, ensuring adherence to agreed turnaround times (TAT). 
  • Monitor credit limits, caps, restrictions, and any exceptions; promptly escalate breaches or emerging concerns to the Credit Risk Manager/Head.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly summary reports covering all new, renewed, and enhanced facilities, declined proposals (with reasons), and key portfolio performance indicators for corporate, SME customers and Financial Institutions (FI) counterparties.
  • Perform independent credit risk assessment of Financial Institutions (FI) and correspondent banks by analyzing audited financial statements, key performance indicators, external credit ratings, ownership structure, and country risk and recommend suitable structures, and conditions.
  • Conduct site visits to borrower sites, factories, warehouses, or other operational/project locations as required or instructed by the supervisor. Verify operational status, assess the existence and condition of collateral/assets, evaluate business activities and management quality, and identify risks not evident from desk analysis. Prepare and submit comprehensive, well-documented site visit reports including observations, supporting evidence, risk assessment, and recommendations.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date documentation and records of all credit assessments, decisions, monitoring activities, and site visit reports in the Bank’s systems and physical files. 
  • Assist in data cleansing and quality assurance initiatives to ensure high purity and integrity of financing data in the core banking system. 
  • Coordinate with branches and relevant departments to ensure compliance with Risk Guidelines, particularly regarding customer certificates and other credit-related processes. 
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities related to credit risk management as may be assigned by the supervisor or Credit Risk Head. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field. 
  • Understanding of credit risk principles, financial statement analysis, ratio analysis, and cash flow assessment. 
  • Knowledge of Islamic banking principles, Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) regulations, and credit policy frameworks is considered an added advantage. 
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in banking is considered an advantage, preferably in credit analysis, risk management, corporate/SME lending, or Financial Institutions (FI) / correspondent banking. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and data analysis. 
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically for site visits and borrower verification as required (typically occasional).
